If you are interested in acquiring a Welsh Springer Spaniel, it's a good idea to attend a dog show with a representative entry of Welshies. This will give you the opportunity to meet a number of breeders and observe their dogs.
Check out the links to the AMERICAN SPANIEL CLUB SHOW held recently in Secaucus, New Jersey
In the Quad-State area of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, dog shows are held nearly every weekend of the year. However, Welsh Springer Spaniels are not well-known in the show ring. Local shows held around popular dog show weekends traditionally attract an entry of between 10 and 25 dogs. Routine shows draw between 4 and 8 dogs at many show sites. The attendance at shows is dependent upon the regional availability of breeders and exhibitors, and the numbers of dog shows within easy driving distance.
Supported Entry and Regional Specialty shows will usually draw an entry of between 15 and 60 dogs. The annual National Specialty can draw between 75 and 150 Welshies, depending upon its location around the US. All these shows are sponsored by the WSSCA and attended by many regional WSS breeders and exhibitors.
Major dog shows during 1998 are listed below. This list is incomplete, but I will update it periodically. Check back here often to see where we're showing. The large entries of Welshies are highlighted in red.
